5 WEEK APFT PREP....

  1. Looks pretty good. It would probably do me some good to give 5 weeks to train up with some running. I don't know if I want to give up a LP program with 2-3 conditioning workouts a week though.

  2. I do this program in the A.M. and lift in the P.M. One lift a day: Pullups, bench, DL, rows, squats on Sunday. Basic 5x5 routine. Should be able to keep strength while adding cardio....

  3. How do you feel about sets up pushups or pullups/chins throughout the day as well? After the 5 weeks are up will you go back to a strength based program? Finally, what do you think about the new Physical and combat readiness tests?

I used Damon's program before our last APFT in October and improved my run time by over 2 minutes. I will use his program again for our APFT in 5 weeks and attempt to score a 300. Damon's use of strength training and event specific training is an outstanding program to focus people who train year round, but do not train for the APFT.

  6. RD Evans...

I'm not convinced that pushups/pullups throughout the day add up to much, but in theory they should. I've done this type of program and never felt like it got me anywhere. Once this 12 week program is completed you should start over.

    Tim,

    Thanks.

  7. CORRECTION: Once the 5 week program is complete, I will switch to the Military Max with 2-3 runs per week in the A.M.

  8. I echo what Tim said above...I did this in prep for my last PT test and had my fastest run time in 2 years. Prior to starting the program, I was training for a half-marathon and my two mile time was getting slower. This definitely works. I fully intend to bring to to my next unit and give it to the leaders to get their Soldiers ready.
